We have spent the last couple of days in the Boulder City
area, where we will stay for a few days longer to hike. It is a magnificent
landscape with a lot of hiking opportunities.
Las Vegas seems so far away here, both distance-wise and
time-wise, but only three days ago we spent a night right close to the ‘strip’.
For both of us Las Vegas has never held any attraction, but as I mentioned
earlier it was the most convenient (and, as it turned out, cheap) location to
get to Red Rock Canyon. Thus we booked a room at a ‘Travelodge’ motel just on
the north end of the strip, with a full view of the Trump building, ‘Circus,
Circus’ lights blinking merrily just outside our window.
We decided that now that we were here we should at least
have a look at this place that breathes opulence and money, where electricity
and water are used as if there was no tomorrow. We walked down the strip as far
as we could stand it, dazed by light and sound and people, and were happy when
we were back in our motel.
